When it comes to the cuisine, King’s Arms Tavern lives up to its reputation as a local gem. Their menu is a curated selection of distinctive dishes that blend tradition with refined technique. The Peanut Soupe, a beloved King's Arms tradition, offers a velvety, savory soup where clear butter, onions, shredded fine carrots, and celery are slow-steeped with peanuts, then served with delicately whipped cream seasoned with pepper and nutmeg. This dish alone creates a memorable sensation, balancing creamy richness with subtle spice.
Other standout dishes include the sumptuous Game Pie as well as hearty classics such as Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Hash, and Pot Roast—all imbued with robust, comforting flavors that transport your palate back in time. The Bread Pudding merits special attention; its moist, delicate texture paired with warm spices and a subtly sweet finish often becomes the highlight of the meal.
Dessert at King’s Arms Tavern is equally compelling, featuring the light and ethereal Snow Eggs, Southern Pecan Pie that perfectly captures the nutty sweetness of the South, and an American Heritage Flourless Chocolate Torte that impresses with its intense chocolate richness and smooth finish. Pair these with their unique King’s Arms Ginger Ale or one of their thoughtfully sourced draught beers, including selections from Williamsburg Aleworks and Billsburg Brewery.
Customers frequently advise sharing dishes due to portion sizes and pricing, making this an ideal spot for shared, convivial dining experiences. The blend of historical charm, culinary craftsmanship, and genuine hospitality makes King’s Arms Tavern a must-visit destination for anyone wanting to taste the authentic spirit of Williamsburg.
Bread with 3 dips (butter, ham salad, and corn/pepper relish), crab croquettes, bread pudding, mashed potatoes, and veggies were all delicious! The roast duck was dry and a little bland. Service and atmosphere was fantastic. I recommend sharing because of the prices.
I came here for dinner my second night staying in Colonial Williamsburg. This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The ambiance and service is truly exceptional. My server Jennifer was friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable. I ordered the peanut soup and the salmon with crab and both were delicious and presented well. They don't have a large menu, but they have good options and prices are decent. Even though the restaurant is old fashioned, it is quite charming. You also get a little entertainment with your meal to make the patrons feel that they are in colonial times. Overall, I really enjoyed my first experience here and will definitely come back again the next time I drive down to Williamsburg.
A very unique experience to have while you are visiting Williamsburg. We started out a couple of cocktails, but really you should go for one of the punch bowls - it ended up being so much better and you didn't have to wait on the staff to serve you. Then we moved on to the iconic peanut soup, a potato chowder and stewed black eye peas, which came with different breads and relishes. The black eye peas were absolutely amazing and I would recommend passing on the peanut soup. For mains, we got the prime rib, the game pye, and To Stew a Shoat in the French Way. They were all excellent! We also were entertained by a fife and a fiddler, which added to the ambiance of the dinner. Aside from the food and atmosphere, the service was really lacking. We felt like we had to flag our server down multiple times for refills, questions, and ordering. Also when ordering she was very short and sometimes walked away before we were finished. In the end it was an experience that we enjoyed and would recommend to others visiting the area. Definitely get reservations. There was a line when we showed up and the restaurant was full the entire time we were there as there are not many food options within Colonial Williamsburg for dinner.
Had reservations and treated my husband’s parents to dinner. Recommend making reservations through open table. Our server Kathy was lovely and very informative. We ordered the Onion pie, the Ham, the steak and salmon. All very delicious. For dessert we got the 2 snow eggs and pecan pie. 2 snow eggs is very light and sweet. A perfect way to end a lovely evening.
We ended up miraculously getting a table the night we got into town without a reservation made previously. The atmosphere was top tier. Our waiter, Stephen, guided us through the menu, provided intriguing historical facts and stories, and was very attentive to our table all night. Dinner by candle light was a very cool experience. We especially enjoyed everything we got: prime rib, salmon and crab, the pork shank, and the bread pudding! The peanut soup was super fun to try and surprisingly yummy! I would also highly recommend the homemade root beer!
Fantastic atmosphere and service. Incredibly charming and unique experience. If you’re in the area, this restaurant is worth a visit. We were there for lunch with 3 kids and it was great! The unique menu includes some kid friendly options. My daughter loved the fried chicken drumstick and mac & cheese! For the adults, I suggest ordering several plates to share. The iced tea is delicious and so refreshing, especially on a hot day.
I haven’t been to Kings arms in decades. I’ve actually had Thanksgiving dinner here and it was memorable. this time we stopped in for lunch and we had their famous peanut soup. I can’t stress enough how delicious the soup really King‘s arm is busy all day. We were fortunate that we came in at a perfect time and we were able to be seated right away. When we left there was a line of people outside waiting to be seated so if you can get a reservation I strongly suggest you do that.
First time here and had a great experience! Our servers were Miranda and Stephen and the history they shared really added to the whole experience. We ate by candle light and all of us in the room shared in the specialness of the night. The food was amazing (roasted duck and prime rib), the drinks were amazing and you have to try the snow eggs!! We will be back!
